Eighteen year old Vicente Zermeno is being pulled deeper and deeper into the gang in East LA—his only future? An early grave. His frustrated parents have tried everything but nothing is working. Finally in desperation they call a relative in a small town in New Mexico hoping that shipping the boy to the country will bring him to his senses, but his defiant attitude makes any chance of success almost impossible. A glimmer of hope arises only after an offer comes from Ricky Richardson to have the boy come to his ranch. West Texas ranch country with nothing but wide open spaces and miles of grassland in which to find himself may well be Vicente’s last opportunity. A well written story of a young boy’s past and uncertain future—of individuals trying to find the good when there is so much bad—and of a family’s coming to terms with the way things are, no matter how much they want them to be different. “Set aside an afternoon in a comfortable chair because once you start you won’t want to put it down.” Chase B.

I am a fan of Mr. Dale's work and have read the previous books in this series. This volume is, by my lights, the best so far. Dale's writing has a new surety and power that I noticed from the first page. But it is the story itself that demands our respect. Dale writes of a troubled city kid, a Mexican/American teen age boy who gets mixed up with the gang culture of LA. The boy flees death at the hands of a rival gang to an uncomfortable hiding place on a remote Texas ranch. He despises his rural keepers, their culture and their work. The story of the young man's transformation is told with brutal realism and wonderful sympathy. Somehow, Dale understands both the live of an inner city teen and the more familiar lives of his rural characters, the ranch folks that he has been telling us about in the Pardner series of books.
This book with bring an enlightened perspective to the reader and will certainly soften the reader's heart,

A Good Man Gone Book Four of Pardner Trust Randall Dale 9780986134869 Books Reviews
Another great read by Randall Dale. Keep them coming. I always enjoy his perspective whether it's a good horse, man or boy. These books are written with honesty, integrity and truth. I love that.
If you have seen any of my book reviews you know I am tight with a five star review. A book has to be stupendous to get one and the rest of my ratings flow from there. I enjoyed this but feel a teenager might like it better.
I have had the privilege of reading many stories in my life. This whole series is one of the best I have enjoyed from beginning to end. I was moved to tears and smiles. The author shows how helping others is real and a community coming together is so beneficial. Can't wait to read more from this author.
I just finished reading all four of the books in the Pardner's Trust Series
#1 is Pardner's Trust
#2 is Friends in Deed
#3 is Hidden Regrets
#4 is A Good Man Gone
All four books are absolutely fantastic!!!
Everything about them is wonderful!!
I highly recommend all four books be read in order.
What a set of books to read. I love all 4 books. Randall has written a great set of books. I will be keeping all 4 books to re read at some time in the future. You cant really say that about some books but with these are that great. These books are a fast read and a page turner you cant wait to get to the next page and then all of a sudden its the end of that book. Great Great books you can't go wrong with this set of 4 books.
I thoroughly enjoyed your book on many levels the characters were fully developed as well as as their relationships., the plot carried me from, one page to another without any gaps, your descriptions of the area and the characters were so vivid that I could see them in my mind and feel their emotions in my heart everything you described, last but not least; you didn't leave me hanging ...you went right into part 2!!! For this I deeply thank you. I am the type of person who loves closure. I hate cliff hangers!!!
I will definitely pick up another of your books
What a ride! Few novels become such a part of me as this one. In fact, all 4 book in this Series will stay with me for a very long time. I highly recommend they be read in order. Dale is a great storyteller, offering clarity in his writing, excitement, depth and details. The perfect pacing of the unfolding stories kept me engaged throughout each book, each paragraph.
I have devoured all 4 books currently in this Series, and each book went deep into my heart -- each offering something different than I'd expected.
In _Good Man Gone_, Book 4, we continue to enjoy the main characters from Books 1-3 -- so there is continuity, and yet each book in the series is a surprise with where it goes and the new characters introduced. This is yet another rich and powerful story, which, like the others, lives on in my memory.
These stories and characters touched me deeply, and will remain in my thoughts long after each book is closed.
I expect to re-read this Series more than once in the future. Can't wait for more offerings from Randall Dale.
